Andrew M. Fortis
Andrew Fortis is a founding Partner of Hummingbird Lawyers LLP and is responsible for its Real Estate and Business Law groups.
After completing his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from York University, Andrew obtained his Juris Doctor from Michigan State University’s Law School in 1999 and was called to the New York State Bar that same year. After completing his U.S. law degree and New York licence, he returned to Canada and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2002.
After spending some time on Bay Street, he started on his journey building and growing what is now Hummingbird Lawyers LLP.
Continuing his passion for real estate law, he obtained his Master of Laws in real estate from Osgoode Hall at York University and was designated by the Law Society of Ontario as a Certified Specialist in Real Estate Law in 2016. Andrew is an active member of the Ontario Bar Association’s Real Property Executive; past roles include Secretary, Vice-Chair and Chair. He is a regular speaker for the Law Society of Ontario and the Ontario Bar Association and has been recognized as an expert in real estate by the Superior Court of Justice. Andrew also tutors for the Law Society of Ontario Bar Admission Course (Real Estate).
While Andrew’s practice consists of all matters of real estate, including residential and commercial acquisitions, dispositions, leasing and financing, complex private financings, development deals for subdivisions and condominiums, along with title rectification matters involving easements and adverse possession claims, he also provides expert opinions on solicitor negligence and is retained for specialty issues such as applications for Absolute Title and Possessory Title.
When he is not working, Andrew can be found reading, cooking or on the golf course.
